Spring in Autumn
Introducing my “Bouquet Flowermania” which was intended to be finished by Spring of 2018 but, just like every quilter there is always something that comes up. In my case, I have to admit I started 2 new quilts. Social media connection is always a distraction for me because every time I see new patterns that attracts me I just can’t seem to just look away. Just looking at the pattern puts my brain to work right away even if I have not even looked at the entire pattern. Yup, if there is a disease for this then I have it. So you ask why I didn’t finish this on time? Oh you know, with 3 boys in the house, house chores, kids getting sick, vacation planned, family reunions and school openings how the heck could I squeeze some stitch time?! This quilt had to be placed on hold until I had some extra time to spare (which really runs slim to none). Although, on out vacation trip I managed to squeeze in some cross stitching time only because it is easier to pack than a huge quilt top. Another revelation is that I was an avid cross stitcher and needle point enthusiast before I fell in love with hand quilting well, english paper piecing to be exact. For those who knew me I even had a stitching retail store. I gave it all up when my mother got really sick. Now with the modern times I am a happy owner of a online store.
With this quilt I had a bit of a doubt whether to use the "green fabric for the hexie connectors or make it purple just like the middle of the flower. Low and behold I gave in and used the purple instead and I didn’t regret the change of mind. So, with that this quilt measures 63” x 70” and this time I didn’t have any excess pieces. I made sure to cut as I attach the rows. Unlike, the previous quilt I made. At least, for me this method works plus I made sure to by more than enough fabric to use.
When my entire quilt top was finished I didn’t really have any idea on what kind of stitch to finish this with I had the clam shell on my head but I wanted it on a small scale. I ended up with this kind of a clam shell effect with pointy ends. Honestly, I think the small scale clam shell pantograph would look better on this. Oh well, its done now and I still love it! I hope you like it too.
